Upcoming Webinar: Apprenticeships in San Diego and Imperial Counties

In response to statewide efforts to expand workforce training offerings, the San Diego/Imperial Center of Excellence (COE) will hold a webinar this month to share key findings from a new report entitled “Opportunities for Apprenticeships in San Diego & Imperial Counties.”

Registered apprenticeships are critical “earn-and-learn” training programs for students to earn sustaining wages, gain industry work experience, and receive classroom instruction.

California has set a goal of registering 500,000 apprentices by 2029—with 45,000 from San Diego and Imperial counties—but the state and the region have only achieved approximately 33% of this goal so far.

To assist with developing registered apprenticeship programs, the COE examined labor market and apprenticeship data to:

  1. Determine what registered apprenticeships exist in California and the San Diego/Imperial region;
  2. Examine ways community colleges can develop more registered apprenticeship programs; and
  3. Identify apprenticeable, high-wage, and high-demand occupations that community colleges should target for program development.
