San Diego/Imperial Center of Excellence (COE) Director Dr. Tina Ngo Bartel participated in a panel discussion July 18 on the child care crisis in San Diego.

The Future of Child Care & Solutions to Move Forward event was organized by KPBS and held at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.

KPBS Editor Claire Trageser moderated the discussion, which included panelists from The Nonprofit Institute, YMCA of San Diego County, Sunshine’s Preschool, and Dr. Ngo Bartel.  

Dr. Ngo Bartel shared findings from the COE’s recent Childcare Industry Workforce Needs Study. 

The report offers information on how community colleges can help students enter the child care workforce, upskill workers already in the industry, and provide entrepreneurs with business support to open their own child care businesses.
