Now Available: Bay Region Report on Careers in Education
The Bay Region Center of Excellence has released a new sector profile that offers a comprehensive look at the education pathway—encompassing early childhood, K–12, and postsecondary education. This essential resource provides data-driven insights into current and projected workforce needs, wage information by career level, and a directory of relevant community college training programs across the region.
The analysis covers multiple career pathways, including early childhood education, elementary and secondary teaching, higher education roles, and specialized occupations such as education coordinators and enrichment instructors. With more than 322,000 jobs in the sector in 2023, and nearly 38,000 job openings projected annually through 2028, the report highlights strong regional demand—driven largely by replacement needs.
Twenty-six Bay Region community colleges are actively preparing the next generation of education professionals, enrolling more than 20,000 students annually in education-related programs. Between 2020–21 and 2022–23, more than 2,900 students completed a certificate or degree each year. The report also presents key demographic trends, including the high participation of female (83%) and Hispanic students (41%).
Recognizing the complexity of the education sector, the report offers statewide policy context to help education stakeholders navigate shifting needs and priorities. As the state continues to focus on Vision 2030 goals of equity, access, and student success, this research emphasizes the importance of supporting the individuals who make educational opportunity possible.
