New Report: Understanding and Supporting Adult Learners Across San Diego & Imperial Community Colleges
The San Diego & Imperial Center of Excellence (COE) has published a report on the experiences of adult learners to help inform community college strategies and policies aimed at meeting the state’s goal of ensuring that 70% of working-age Californians obtain a postsecondary degree by 2030.
The COE surveyed more than 600 adult learners in the region to better understand their experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
Key insights include the challenge of balancing multiple responsibilities, the importance of flexible scheduling, and a strong emphasis on program completion. The report recommends that community colleges in the region explore strategies such as expanding access to enrollment and course offerings, providing high-touch guidance, and highlighting pathways to high-demand, high-wage careers.
