Counselor Institute Wrap-Up Invests in Career Education Advising Across the Region
The San Diego & Imperial Center of Excellence hosted the wrap-up event for the second cohort of the Strong Workforce Counselor Institute on May 8 at San Diego Miramar College. This event was funded by the San Diego/Imperial Regional Consortium. Counselors from seven regional community colleges gathered to celebrate completing the institute and reflect on six months of collaboration, professional learning and action planning focused on strengthening equitable student support practices.
Throughout the institute, counselors engaged in learning centered on student data analysis, career exploration, labor market information, cross-campus collaboration and culturally inclusive counseling practices. They also partnered with peers, institutional researchers and other departments to develop equity-focused action plans aimed at addressing student success gaps and enhancing support services on their campuses around CTE programs and career pathways.
During the wrap-up event, counselors heard from institute alumni and connected with colleagues from across the region to share experiences, discuss implementation of their action plans and explore how the institute’s professional learning will continue to inform advising practices at their colleges. The event highlighted the value of sustained regional collaboration in advancing equitable, data-informed student support systems.
