The South Central Coast Center of Excellence (COE) is excited to announce that its team has expanded! Ashley Kernan joined the SCC COE as a Research Manager and brings more than six years of quantitative and qualitative research to the team. We sat down with Ashley to get to know her a bit and learn her thoughts about her new role.

What interested you in the SCC COE Research Manager position?

As someone with a passion for data and research, this role was a perfect fit for me. It offered me the opportunity to combine my knowledge of sociology and research while simultaneously acquiring new skills and growth as a researcher. It was exciting to me that I would contribute to meaningful research by analyzing data that directly impacts community college students that can assist them prepare for their future in the job market. 

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?

I look forward to being on a team and continuing my passion for research while helping make a difference. It doesn’t feel like a job when you are a part of something you enjoy so much. I am excited to grow and gain further skills both as a researcher and an individual. 

What do you do for fun in your free time?

I love going on walks, playing and training with my service dog Vader, hanging out with family and friends, and going to Disneyland. I also like to build Legos and play board games and cards with my family.
