The Bay Region Center of Excellence (COE) has compiled and published a year-in-review analysis of unemployment and employment in the region during 2021 with key trends to consider for the labor market and workforce moving forward.

The Bay Region’s labor market has recovered significantly from the severe loss of jobs that occurred during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In December 2021, the region reported only 3% fewer jobs overall compared to March 2020 and unemployment rates close to levels seen in 2019 prior to the start pandemic.
