August 2025 Jobs Data: Losing Sectors
According to the latest employment data from the Employment Development Department’s Labor Market Information Division (EDD/LMID), the construction sector lost 1,200 jobs between July and August 2025 in the Inland Empire/Desert region. This decline exceeds the sector’s typical monthly reduction of about 400 jobs.
The region’s wholesale trade employment also fell by 400 jobs, despite historically maintaining steady employment levels during this period.
Retail trade employers shed 300 jobs, contrasting with the sector’s historical trend of adding more than 400 jobs between July and August.
Another sector that experienced a decline was other services, which lost 200 jobs. This sector includes repair and maintenance; personal and laundry services; and religious, grantmaking, civic, professional, and similar organizations.
