August 2025 Jobs Data: Gaining Sectors

The Employment Development Department’s Labor Market Information Division (EDD/LMID) reports that government employment in the Inland Empire/Desert region grew by 4,200 jobs (1.6%) from July to August 2025. The monthly job gains are consistent with historical averages and were driven by increases in local government educational services (+5,500 jobs), which includes K–12 public schools. These gains make up for losses in state government (-800 jobs) and federal government (-100 jobs).

Following the government sector, the health care and social assistance sector added 1,800 jobs over the month, also in line with historical trends. Administrative and support and waste management and remediation services added 900 jobs and is significantly higher than the typical increase of about 100 jobs between July and August. This diverse sector includes employers providing office administrative services, business support services, services to buildings and dwellings, security services, and waste management and remediation services.

The transportation and warehousing sector added 400 jobs in August 2025, driven primarily by growth in the warehousing and storage industry. This 0.2% increase in employment surpasses the four-year historical average, during which the sector typically experienced flat job growth. The uptick in August employment may indicate growing confidence in the regional transportation and warehousing sector or reflect the substantial rise in port traffic observed in July 2025. Lastly, accommodation and food services employers, who typically shed nearly 900 jobs over the month, instead added 600 jobs (0.4%).
